Joe Jackson, the father of Michael and Janet Jackson, has died at 89. Joe, who was infamous for ruling his home with an iron fist and being the driving force behind his children’s super stardom passed away at a Las Vegas Hospice. He was hospitalized earlier this month and diagnosed with terminal cancer.

A rep from Michael Jackson’s estate released a statement saying, “We are deeply saddened by Mr. Jackson’s passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katherine Jackson and the family. Joe was a strong man who acknowledged his own imperfections and heroically delivered his sons and daughters from the steel mills of Gary, Indiana to worldwide pop super stardom.”

Michael’s daughter, Paris, took to Instagram to pay tribute to her grandfather. “spending those last few moments with you were everything. being able to tell you everything i needed to tell you before saying goodbye was such a blessing,” Paris wrote.
