Colin Kaepernick and Nike stirred up a lot of controversy with the announcement of their new campaign. Colin is the face of the brands 30th Anniversary ‘Just Do It’ campaign and they’ve released their official commercial. Check it out below:
In further Kaepernick news, the The National Black Police Association is reportedly furious with the boycotts that have initiated as a result of Nike’s decision to make Colin the face of their campaign. These boycotts have included people burning their Nike products and cutting off the swoosh from other articles of Nike gear. the National Black Police Association has written a letter to Nike supporting the brand, Kaepernick, and their support of the 1st Amendment. The letter also addresses a previous letter written by the National Police Association, that was written with the opposite intent and slammed Nike for their endorsement of Kaepernick.
“The NBPA believes that Mr. Kaepernick’s stance is in direct alignment with what law enforcement stands for — the protection of a people, their human rights, their dignity, their safety, and their rights as American citizens.”
“NAPO has shown an adeptness at maintaining the police status quo and the tone in their letter further validates Mr. Kaepernick’s concerns, as it undermines the trust that is needed by law enforcement in order for the profession to maintain its legitimacy.”
