35-year-old Black Panther star, Lupita Nyong’o says her hair has something that’s been shunned over the years but that she’s taking it upon herself to share positive images of her natural beauty. “My hair is something that, historically, has been shunned. I mean, how often do you hear ‘You can’t get a job with hair like that’?” said in Porter magazine’s Fall fashion issue.
“Natural, African, kinky hair, it’s often been painted as uncivilized or wild—-being featured on the cover of a magazine fulfills me as it is an opportunity to show other dark, kinky-haired people, and particularly our children, that they are beautiful just the way they are,” the actress told the magazine.
Nyong’o also opened up about being a victim of sexual harassment at the hands of Hollywood exec, Harvey Weinstien. She also noted that her mother gave her the strength to stand up for herself.
The issue hits stands August 10.
